Swimming and Reading

Today was Seth's last day of swimming lessons for this session. I bought him some goggles a few weeks ago and now instead of spending the time he is supposed to be patiently waiting at the edge of the pool for his turn spinning in circles with his head tilted back he puts his head under the water and wiggles around. He is getting better about keeping at least one hand on the edge but he still had a few episodes where he floats away from the wall and freaks out the lifeguard on duty. Despite this, he actually passed all the skills for Pike and was passed up to Eel. I am very proud of him. I think we will skip the next session but we'll try out his new class in a month or two.

Seth is so tired after swimming lessons we always have to go straight home. It has totally ruined my master plan to throw the boys into child watch after lessons and go work out but what can you do? Once I am home it is so hard to get Seth to leave we end up wasting away the rest of the day. I wanted to make chicken enchiladas for dinner tonight but I forgot to get tortillas and once again I didn't make the effort to get the boys into their car seats so I could buy some. On the positive side I did finish "The Comforts of a Muddy Saturday" by Alexander McCall Smith. I don't know why I feel the need to keep reading series that I don't enjoy much. For some reason I just can't resist. The worst was this summer when I read all 29 "The Cat Who..." mystery books by Lilian Jackson Bruan. The first ones were fun but they went downhill fast and the last few were simply terrible. Yet I read every single one. Next on my list is "The Diamond of Darkhold" by Jeanne DuPrau. Yet another book in a series I am not thrilled with. Why? Why? Why?

I am dying laughing reading this. I think the reason I want you and Gretchen to have blogs is because then, as often as you post, I can have your perspectives that I love, in my living room with me. And I get to laugh really hard.
Congrats to Seth - someone needs to make those lifeguards earn their pay anyway.
I don't think I've read 29 books in the last fvie years. Holy Cow!!!

I'm so glad that you have a blog! I'm a blog-a-holic! Good job Seth! Swimming is such a good activity for kids! And 29 books in one summer?!? Wow! I thought I was doing good, reading the 4 Twilight books :) Way to go! I love reading... it stimulates my brain! (my brain doesn't get much use talking to 3 yr olds all day!)

Kirstin, I am loving this ferrin blanaced blog. So funny! You are such a reader. You are a writer too, so you shouldn't have been avoiding those writing classes after all. :) YEAH Seth on the swimming! Miles starts lessons in a couple weeks.
